Attendance

What's your child's class attendance this week?

Our whole school attendance was 95.4% for the week week back to school! What an exceptional start to the term. Let's keep it up!

Leading the way are Miss Griffin's class and Miss Owen's class with 100%!

Ty Sign Primary School is committed to providing a full and efficient education to all pupils and embraces the concept of equal opportunities for all.

We will provide an environment where all pupils feel valued and welcomed and are committed to the fundamental principle that early intervention and partnership working is crucial in ensuring the attendance and well-being of all children and young people.

For a pupil to reach their full educational achievement, a high level of school attendance is essential. We will consistently work towards a goal of excellent attendance for all pupils. (95 - 100%) Every opportunity will be used to convey to pupils and their parents or carers the importance of regular and punctual attendance.

Attendance Calls - Reminder

If your child is not able to attend school for a genuine reason you are required to phone the school on 01633 612813 by 9.15am or to send an email to absence@tysignprimary.co.uk . Please inform us the reason for absence and likely duration. If you're unsure of the duration, please continue to contact us each morning, until your child returns.

If the school is not contacted, a member of staff will contact you by phone to enquire about the reason for absence and to assist in encouraging regular, consistent pupil attendance. To help us with this it is therefore vital that all pupils’ contact details are kept up to date.

Leave of Absence/Holidays in Term Time

Parents and carers do not have the automatic right to withdraw their children from school for an annual holiday and will be reminded of the effect that absence can have on a pupil’s potential achievement.

Holidays will be authorised in exceptional circumstances only. Parents / carers  must apply in advance for their permission for their child to have a holiday or trip.

A holiday form must be filled in and handed to the Office at least a week before the date of holiday.

Parents and Carers are advised that a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) may be issued by the LA when permission for a holiday or leave of absence has not been authorised by the school and exceeds 10 sessions. The Local Authorities Local Code of Conduct has more information on this.

Our schools will only agree to an application for holiday or trip if we believe that there are exceptional circumstances; parents and carers must apply in advance for permission for their child to have a holiday or trip (two weeks minimum notice for a family holiday).  Forms to request a holiday or trip can be obtained from the schools, either in paper copy from the schools office or from the schools website.

When your Child can miss School

You can only allow your child to miss school if:

 - They’re too ill to attend.

 - You’ve got advance permission from the school. (IE; for a holiday)

Extra support is available if your child is unable to attend school for long periods because of a health problem.

School Procedures

Any pupil who is absent from school at the morning or afternoon registration period will have their absence recorded as being authorised, unauthorised or as an approved educational activity (attendance out of school). Only the Headteacher or a member of staff acting on their behalf can authorise absence.

If there is no known reason for the absence at registration, then the absence will be recorded in the first instance as unexplained (code N) and promptly followed up by the school, as part of its early intervention and safeguarding.

Attendance Initiatives

At Ty Sign Primary School we have devised a range of incentives to encourage and reward good attendance. These include a weekly attendance award, a weekly punctuality prize award and some small groups of pupils benefit from frequent short-burst interventions.

The Welsh Government challenges all pupils to attend for at least 97% of the school year. This would mean that they have no more than 6 days off from school each year.

We currently implement a traffic light system for children's attendance, if your child is 95% and above they are within the Green band, if they are between 90%-95% they are within the Amber band and if they are below 90% then they are within the red band.

Lateness

Morning registration will take place at the start of school at 9:00am. The registers will remain open for a maximum of 30 minutes, in accordance with Welsh Government.

Pupils arriving after the start of school but before the end of the registration period will be coded as late (L).

Afternoon registration will be at 12.45pm (pm Nursery) and 1:00pm (FP and KS2)

Parents and carers are reminded that The LA may issue a FPN for persistent lateness after the close of the register in accordance with the Local Code of Conduct, if in excess of 10 sessions.

Our Family Liaison Officer

Anna Skelton is our Family Liaison Officer (FLO) and she is here to support your children and your family. In order to support children in achieving their fullest potential, her role is to help keep the communication between families, school staff and various agencies. An essential aspect of this support is promoting regular school attendance.

Attending school every day is a key factor in ensuring your child’s success at school. Showing up every day not only helps your child keep up with their learning but also encourages a feeling of belonging, promotes a supportive community and generates valuable life skills.
